Bone Interieurwerken, based in the Netherlands, is known for creating high-end custom furniture and interior design solutions for clients across Europe. As their production demands grew, they turned to automation to maintain their signature craftsmanship while improving efficiency and consistency.
To achieve this, Bone integrated Nordbo’s Mimic platform with a Universal Robots UR10e cobot. The setup includes a spindle with automatic bit change, allowing the robot to switch seamlessly between eight different deburring and grinding tools — all controlled through Mimic’s intuitive no-code interface.
With Mimic, Bone’s team can teach the robot directly by demonstration: an operator simply performs the task by hand, and Mimic captures the precise motion for the robot to replicate. This eliminates the need for complex programming and preserves the “handmade” quality in automated processes.
“My favorite robotic tool is Nordbo Mimic because it’s easy to use, ”says Jerry Kosters from Jerry Kosters Machine Service, Nordbo’s trusted partner and distributor in the region.
By implementing Mimic, Bone Interieurwerken has achieved:
Faster setup and programming of cobot processes
Higher precision and repeatability in deburring and grinding
Better working conditions by reducing monotonous manual tasks
Improved flexibility, with the ability to integrate custom 3D-printed tools
With this system, Bone’s employees no longer need coding experience to automate complex tool paths. Instead, they can transfer their craftsmanship directly to the cobot — improving productivity while maintaining the company’s high standards of quality and design.
